Alec Baldwin was born to Carol Newcomb nee Martineau and Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr, a high school history teacher and football coach. He is of Irish and French descent and was raised in a Catholic faith. Alec Baldwin has three brothers Daniel, William and Stephen, all of whom are actors like him. Alec Baldwin had his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New York University and had studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute under Elaine Aiken and Geoffrey Horne.

Alec Baldwin married Kim Besieger his co-star from "The Marrying Man" in 1993 and divorced her in 2002. The couple together has a daughter Ireland Elise born 1995.
